Description
The 1992 GT Team Avalanche is an aluminum-framed cross-country mountain bike built around GT’s Triple Triangle design using Tange Prestige and Concept tubing. The frame features a 1-1/8″ oversize reinforced head tube, externally butted seat tube, and new vertical forged dropouts with an alloy derailleur hanger. Componentry is drawn primarily from Shimano’s XTR group, including STI Rapid-Fire Plus 8-speed shifters, XTR derailleurs, and anatomically sized crank arms with 46/36/26T chainrings.
Stopping duties are split between a Shimano XTR low-profile front cantilever and a Deore XT rear U-brake. Araya RM-400 Pro 7000-series aluminum rims carry Ritchey WCS Z-Max 26×2.1 Kevlar-bead tires, and the fork choice spans GT’s own 3D Unicorn chromoly unit or a Rock Shox Mag 20 with dial adjust.
